Interest in the Portugal Golden Visa program has grown significantly after the announcement of amendments to the citizenship law. At the beginning of February 2024, the document had already been approved by Parliament and was being signed by the President. As before, to obtain the coveted passport, you must have resident status for at least 5 years.
However, now the countdown of this period begins not from the moment of receiving a residence permit in Portugal (Portugal Golden Visa), but from the moment of filing an application for this status. That is, while the investor waits 12-15 months for a decision on the application, he “ gains” time, which will be counted when applying for Portuguese citizenship. Such deadlines are associated with a large number of bureaucratic and immigration delays.
